Artists who composer or arrange music rarely receive more than 10% of the net income acquired by a publisher for the sale of their works. These artists are never given the first right of refusal for performances, for altered arrangements, for licensing. They have never been able to restore their rights of ownership to a work(s) signed over to a publisher, but have watched as the publisher profits further from the sale of their works without any compensation. And, in too many cases, these peers have not been paid royalties for the works they have written. So, in essence, these artists have spilled countless hours of talent and effort in the creation of the works you hear each day, and lost every intellectual property right US Copyright provides them, in theory, under the law.
Now, the beauty of the tumult I walked through with Christ also provided a solution––one that gives individual composers, arrangers, and artists the opportunity to publish music with a company that is “creator-friendly.” In other words, rather than focusing on the self-centered idea of creating a profitable publishing company that benefits me, why not create a company whose primary goal is to give emerging artists the chance to bring their ideas to the market by means of a small independent company that serves the artist first? And, given many of the large publishing companies maintain a money-centric approach with little regard to the goals and interests of their artists, why not be committed to the artist, publishing a quality product that is often overlooked by the larger companies in the publishing world? Give creative opportunities to artists that were ‘waiting to be discovered?’ And, why not provide artists the opportunity to a low-risk publishing house, giving musicians a higher percentage of profits, alongside a unique no-risk termination clause––one that indefinitely allows artists to recapture and retain their publishing rights should they choose to leave the publisher, with proper notice of course?
And, if the artist desires, why not allow people around the world to see, hear, and experience these works freely?
I have the model, thanks to the assistance of my dear friend Wayne Lu and his company, Veritas Musica Publications, and it allows the artist to establish a pricing structure that people can afford, or give the works away freely if they so choose. This is the focus of Christian Ontos Publishing (COP). And, I am searching for artists waiting to be discovered–-those who write, arrange, or transcribe quality music that is worthy of attention and scholarly analysis–-and, making these works available to the general public; that being, you! COP intends to provide these artists a low-risk publishing alternative (e.g., you maintain the rights over your work for the duration you publish with us), the industry’s highest percentage of profits from every sale or licensing agreement (e.g., 45-55% depending upon the circumstances), and a unique no-risk termination clause. Further, unlike most publishing houses, COP will NOT indefinitely retain the copyright for works we acquire, but will, with proper notice, return an artist’s publishing rights should they choose to leave us as their publisher WITH NO ADDITIONAL COST to the artist.
If you are interested in what COP can do for your works, feel free to contact our office <office@christianontos.com> or use the contact form and share your interest.
In the meantime, it is my hope that you will find the works on this site something impactful to your life journey, and an aid in your transformation by the life changing reality of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
I hope to hear from you soon!
